Air taxis in UAE: Over 400 test flights conducted ahead of 2025 launch

The UAE is set to introduce air taxi services by 2025, with over 400 test flights already conducted this year by Archer Aviation, a US-based company. These electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, called "Midnight," will reduce travel time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to just 10-20 minutes, a significant reduction from the current 60-90 minutes. The service will cost between AED 800 and AED 1,500 for trips between the two cities, while intra-city rides in Dubai will be priced around AED 350.

Archer has partnered with UAE companies to develop infrastructure such as vertiports, manufacture aircraft locally in Abu Dhabi, and establish regional headquarters ahead of the launch. Their recent test flights have provided crucial data on performance, safety, noise levels, and endurance, with a focus on simulating the future commercial operations of these air taxis. The company also delivered its first aircraft to the US Air Force in mid-August, marking a significant milestone in the project’s development.

This initiative is expected to revolutionize transportation between the UAE's major cities, combining speed and sustainability for both residents and tourists.
